Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity
The “letter time capsule" Gift:
About five years after my mom passed, a friend of hers sent me a copy of every letter my mom ever wrote her. She had them scanned so I could save them digitally. It was like a time capsule being opened on my mom’s life. She was a prolific writer so her letters were almost like reading journal entries. Even better, these were written when I was a kid so I got an insight into her struggles that I knew nothing about as a child. It was so touching and so special. I admit, I cried when I realized what it was!

BGC tips:
Before gifting a deceased person’s personal correspondences with you, carefully consider if they would rather those items remain privately with you. Also, you might want to screen the materials before gifting them!
Instead of scanning/copying the documents, you could gift the originals
Ways to get documents scanned:
Visit a Fedex
Use a personal scanner
Download free smartphone apps like Genius Scan
Utilize your local library to access free scanning services
Other time capsule items you might possess with keepsake gift potential:
Postcards
Voice recordings
Artwork/drawings
School report cards
Military documents or souveniers
Music mixtapes (see Viva La Mixtape)
Recipes (see 🎁 Scrumptious handwritten gift)
Home videos or photos (see 🎁 One gift to make many people smile)

Subscribers putting BGC
gift ideas into action
Have you been inspired by a gift idea shared in the BGC newsletter? It would be the highlight of my week to hear from you about it! Here’s who made my week:
I have done the continuing surprise party twice. The first time was when my husband turned 40. Music is extremely important to him. I had a song delivered to him at work along with directions to the next location. The first was his home after he was born. His parents were there to deliver the next song and direction. He then went to his childhood home and was met by some of his siblings. The following stops were his schools, our home, and the final stop was a friend’s bar for a party. It was a lot of work but worth it.
