always having awesome gift ideas well in advance.
My attempt to make you smile
before getting to today’s gift ideas
Hi gift-givers! This newsletter gives you gift ideas so good, that Sam-I-am could easily convince you to read it in a box, with a fox, with a mouse, in a house, here and there, and anywhere.
One-ish more thing(s)
before today’s gift ideas
Are there weeks when you don’t see the BGC email in your inbox?
If so, it’s likely because your email service provider thinks my emails are spam or promotions (booo).
The easiest way for you to ensure future BGC emails don’t end up in your spam inbox is to add [email protected] as a known inbox contact ~ or ~ by finding a past email that went into your spam and moving it into your primary inbox.
If you use gmail, here’s a quick clip on how to drag an email to your primary inbox:
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this email and I’d be glad to help you through the process.
Estimated read time: 2 minutes & 23 seconds
Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity
The “Dr. Seuss Your Own Book" Gift:
“Spelling Saves the Monster Truck Brothers from the Stinky Cheese Man” – now that’s a title we knew would grab the attention of our toddler when my wife and I wrote and illustrated a book for his birthday. It’s about 6 monster truck brothers whose breakfast is held captive by the Stinky Cheese Man until they can spell 6 words by enlisting the help of our son. We photoshopped images of him riding in his monster truck toys and visiting familiar places and faces around our house. It’s one of his (and our) favorite books of all time.
Poor production quality…but kids don’t care!
We used adhesive Post-It dry-erase sheets on the pages so the words he needs to spell can vary
Why this gift is great
Personalized, unique, thoughtful, fun!
Encourages learning
Gets better with age
Brainstorming your version of this gift
BGC Custom Children’s Book Playbook:
Write the book the google slides
Create & add the images to the slides
Review the book
Upload the pages into mpix (or similar photo album service) and order them to be printed & delivered
***I’m sure some of you know a better way to create your own book, but this worked for us.
Other methods for creating a custom book:
Canva - Instructional video for creating a storyboard in canva
Pen, paper, markers, etc (Amazon has blank hard cover books)
Want a custom book without having to write & illustrate yourself?
You can personalize a book that’s created from a template of your choosing through a service like hoorayheroes.com (my wife had one of these made for me a few years ago). Here’s a list of 10 platforms that offer a similar service.

Subscribers putting BGC
gift ideas into action
As I already mentioned in a previous email, 5 different people reached out to me to let me know they gave the crossword puzzle idea to someone in their lives. Upon learning about this, the subscriber who originally shared this idea, had the following to say:
I am absolutely over the moon that so many people have loved the crossword puzzle gift idea! It makes me happy for so many reasons, including that it helps me to think of my mother and smile! Thank you for sharing the gift ideas and people's input.
