Hi gift-givers! Today’s story provides a bench-mark for gift thoughtfulness—just don’t sit on this idea too long!

Here’s what we’re unboxing in today’s edition:

Enjoy!

Best Gift Story:
The “Where I Met
Your Mother" Gift

My wife and I met in college and our first date included sitting on a campus bench and just talking. Over a decade after we graduated, I found myself back on campus. The bench was still there, so I snapped a photo of it. I then printed out the photo, framed it, and gave it to my wife for our anniversary. If you ask her, this is one of the best gifts anyone has ever given her.

Brainstorming
your version of this gift

Don’t delay – places disappear or materially change

If you can’t get to the location yourself to snap a photo:

If the location no longer exists:

  • Ask friends/family for any existing photos

  • Connect with local libraries to inquire about resources that might have historical street photos (I did this, and it work!)

Two types of locations to consider are ones that are significant to:

  • Your relationship with them

  • Just them (e.g. mom’s childhood home)

Possible events/places of significance for a relationship (romantic, familial, or friendship):

  • Vacation/trip

  • Restaurant/shops

  • First meeting/date

  • Favorite meeting spot

  • Homes (first shared home, childhood homes, etc.)

Meet my gift-giving hero

Have you ever met one of your heroes?

I just (virtually) connected with one of mine…and HE REACHED OUT TO ME!

Jeff Galak is the world’s leading academic on the topic of gift-giving. When I first committed myself to becoming a better gift-giver, his research was the foundation of my transformation.

I was beyond flattered when Jeff emailed little ole me out of the blue to ask if I, as someone who knows a thing or two about gift-giving, would give his new gift suggestion tool, GiftStar, a try.

GiftStar is by far the BEST gift-suggestion app that I’ve tried yet. I’m so impressed, that I just had to share it with you. This free tool PLUS Better Gift Coach should be just what you need this holiday season.
