Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity

The “donation in your name" Gift:

My dad works in the equine industry, selling and servicing horse trailers. He's a very "I have everything I need" kind of guy and is impossible to buy for. One Christmas I made a donation to a local equine art therapy organization in his name. I still spent as much as I would have on a present, but it was nice not to spend money on a physical gift just because. Also, it gave something to someone else, was something in my dad's realm of interest (horses), and my dad was probably happy that he didn't have another sweater or jar of nuts!

Why this gift is great

  • Potential to be a win-win-win gift

  • Meaningful gift for close loved ones who tell you they “have everything”

Brainstorming your version of this gift

Make this gift more tangible by providing your gift-recipient a handwritten note that acknowledges the donation in their name and other adds in additional kind words. If applicable, pass along any thank you letters or impact materials (e.g. photos) that you may have received from the charitable organization.

🚨 Hold up! As a gift, donations to causes dear to the gift recipient can be winners…but not always. Findings from this study contend that it’s best to reserve these gifts for your closest family/friends.

I’ve so appreciated your newsletters and collection of ideas! I gifted my husband the "book recommendation gift” for his 40th birthday and he LOVED it. He said it was one of the most meaningful gifts he’s ever received.
