Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity

The ā€œhidden notes game" Gift

A smile uncontrollably came over me as I pulled out the small piece of paper from the pocket of a jean jacket I hadn’t worn since high school. I FINALLY found the last one. The 20th note! It read ā€œyou got your good genes from my side of the familyā€ in my mom’s handwriting. It had been maybe 15 years since my mother for Valentine’s Day hid 20 handwritten notes for each my father, my sister, and me to find. I immediately texted the group a photo of my find for all of us to celebrate. My dad still hasn’t found a few of his notes…

Why this gift is great

No disrespect to the classic lunchbox note, but multiple cleverly-hidden notes that you’re going to stumble upon when you least expect it (maybe even years later) are A LOT more fun

Brainstorming your version of this gift

šŸ’”TIPS FOR YOUR GIFT:

Who deserves notes:

  • Significant others

  • Kids (young & adult)

  • Roommates/friends

  • Parents (time to pay mom back for all the childhood lunchbox notes)

What to include in notes:

Ideas for where to put/hide notes:

  1. In their favorite article of clothing they own

  2. In your favorite article of clothing they own

  3. In your least favorite article of clothing they own

  4. A location associated with their biggest annoyance

  5. Along with an item that’s the source of an inside joke

  6. A location associated with a chore they do that you never do

  7. A location associated with something you two have wasted a lot of time on

  8. A location associated with something they were ā€œrightā€ about that you’ve come around to

  9. A location associated with something you were ā€œrightā€ about that they’ve come around to

  10. A location associated with something (e.g. a chore) they rarely do that you regularly encourage them to do

For more, here’s a list of 41 specific locations people hide their notes.

Playbook for making notes a fun gift:

  1. Make a list of the locations of 10 notes and what you want to write on them (privately keep this list until all notes are found)

  2. Handwrite the notes (date each one and number them 1/10, 2/10, etc.)

  3. Hide them (make one easy to find)

  4. Once they find the first one and see that there’s 10 total, the game (and the fun) is afoot

A SUBSCRIBER'S FEEDBACK (yes, I read them)

ā€œOne time I made a whole playlist of my friend's favorite song. I recorded different arrangements of the song from all different artists. He loved the tape.ā€
