Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity

The “neighbors forever home replica" Gift:

One of the best gifts I’ve ever received was from my neighbors right before we moved out of state. Amidst the flurry of farewell hugs, they handed me two small wooden replicas. One was of my home and the other was of theirs. Many years have passed since we moved, but whenever I see those little wooden houses next to each other, I’m reminded of the bonds we shared, the laughter, and the warmth.

Why this gift is great

  • Unique

  • Long-Lasting

  • Nostalgia-inducing

  • Doesn't take up much room

  • Emphasizes and celebrates the lasting friendship of neighbors

A home (or neighboring homes) can be depicted in a photo or painting (similar to 🎁 Love It or List It or Frame It).

Considering people seem to miss friends the most around the holidays, also consider a house tree ornament. (Also doesn’t take up much room)

Other gifts to consider for neighbors moving away:

🚨Warning! When gifting artwork or home decor, you may want first to get the approval of the recipient to ensure they want the item and have the room to accommodate it. At the very least, stick to items that don’t take up much space (like Sue’s small wooden home replicas)

Subscriber feedback on gift ideas
(thank you)

In response to the wedding bouquet art gift idea shared in Wedding guests sitting on a gift goldmine, a subscriber provided the following feedback:

“I think it's super risky to get anyone any type of artwork or home decor. They're going to feel obligated to display it even if they don't like it (even if they like the painting, what if it doesn't go with the style of their home or their other decor?) and they might not even have the space for it. My brother has a habit of blowing up photos on canvases for the whole family and people don't have room for them, nor do they necessarily want to hang the photo in question in their home. If it's a wedding gift, I'd rather just receive something from the registry.”

Thanks for this valuable feedback! When gifting artwork or home decor, you may want first to get the approval of the recipient to ensure they want the item and have the room to accommodate it. At the very least, stick to items that don’t take up much space. To help future readers, I have added this guidance in the web version of the email. Please also note that the wedding bouquet painting was NOT advised as a wedding gift, but as a gift for an occasion after the wedding (birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc.). I agree with the subscriber that when it comes to wedding gifts, stick to cash or something on the registry.
