THE GIFT STORY

Ā

šŸŽTHE GIFT:

The ā€œletā€™s stay connected each month" Gift

My Godtwins, now 12, are overwhelmed with gifts from their parents and grandparents and other relatives at birthdays and holidays. I wanted to give them something that wasnā€™t ā€œlost in the shuffle.ā€ So a few years ago I enrolled them in (made up) the ā€œFairy Godmother Book of the Month Club.ā€ I sent them surveys about their interests, what their favorite subjects were, what they like to do, who their favorite authors and series were. Each month I send them each a book. They love getting them. Their mother insists it has cemented their love of reading. And it really helps us stay connected even though I only get to see them once or twice a year.

šŸŒ® WHY THIS GIFT IS GREAT:

  • Material gift + experience

  • The extra effort oozes with love

  • Breaks through the noise of regular gifting holidays

  • Continually keeps gift giver and recipient connected

  • Gift traditions are awesome (see other tradition-worthy gifts)

  • Similar to the custom advent calendar gift idea, allows for a selection curated to personal preferences (vs made-to-order one-size-fits-all book of the month options)

šŸ’”TIPS FOR YOUR GIFT:

This email celebrates the value that the enhanced personalization & effort of a make-your-own ā€œ___ of the monthā€ gift idea deliver, but out-of-the-box subscriptions also make great gifts (see šŸŽ Nurture a relationship on autopilot).

Want to encourage early reading (up to 5 yrs old) for someone, but donā€™t want to curate the books Fairy Godmother style? Check out the free Dolly Partonā€™s Imagination Library monthly book club. Our toddler loves it.

A make-your-own book of the month club is AWESOME and you could follow Stephanieā€™s blueprint for success, but the concept can also be applied to items other than books.Ā

When creating your own ā€œ____ of the month clubā€:

  • Consider items related to your recipientā€™s hobbies

  • Might want to survey for preferences (great idea, Stephanie)

  • Doesnā€™t have to be monthlyĀ (can be annually, quarterly, etc.)

  • Can stock up on inventory all at one time and then send them individually

For inspiration for other make-your-own ā€œ___ of the month clubsā€, check out BuzzFeedā€™s top 50 Subscription Boxes for 2023ā€¦and then just create your own version.

A couple of ideas for make-your-own ā€œ___ of the month clubsā€ that I thought of:

  • Household tools (great for new homeowners)

  • Shared memories (could entail photos, written reflections, or mementos etc.; I think this would be special for couples, siblings, and old friends)

Ā

šŸš€PUTTING THE GIFT IDEA INTO ACTION:

  • What are you loved onesā€™ hobbies/interests? _____

  • Who would you love the opportunity to be more regularly connected with (Godchildren, nieces/nephews, grandkids, etc.)? _____

šŸ“‚Ā  If this gift idea is save-worthy, create a ā€œGift Ideasā€ inbox folder & file it away for future use ~or~ find it again in our library.
