Playbook for a planned just because gift:

1. Ask someone what they want for a future gift occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc.)

2. Select a random date to give them the gift

3. Add the date to your calendar (so you don’t forget)

4. Order the gift ASAP

5. When it arrives, hide the gift

6. Surprise them with the gift on the selected date

7. Bask in their silly-looking surprised reaction

8. Repeat 1-7 again next year

9. Go down in the history books as a prolific gift-giver

P.S. More context on the video above - When we were living on the east coast, my wife randomly stumbled upon an unknown (to us) just-opened New Hampshire location of my favorite hometown (Cleveland) restaurant. Upon her discovery, instead of immediately telling me about it, one day she played it off like we were just going to a new “restaurant she found online”. We later found out that the Cleveland owner’s sister lives in NH so she established a location up there. Epic gift.
